Mia Bourdeau Love, a trailblazing leader, devoted mother, and gifted communicator, passed away on March 23, 2025, in Saratoga Springs at the age of 49. Born Ludmya Bourdeau in Brooklyn, New York, to Haitian immigrant parents, Mia’s life was defined by her faith, family, and unwavering dedication to public service.
Mia first made history as the first Black Republican woman elected to the United States Congress, representing Utah. Beyond politics, Mia was a CNN commentator, author, speaker, and theatrical performer, sharing her intelligence, warmth, and boundless energy with all who knew her.
Her personal life was equally rich. Mia married Jason Love in 1998, and together they raised three children—Alessa, Abigale, and Peyton—instilling in them her values of courage, curiosity, and service. Her granddaughter, Mera, brought her immense joy in her later years. Mia’s faith as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was central to her life, guiding her words, actions, and enduring legacy.
Mia battled cancer with the same strength and grace that defined her life, recording her memoir, Qualified, to ensure her voice would continue to inspire even after her passing. Known for her authenticity, humor, and ability to lift others through her words, Mia leaves behind a legacy of hope, service, and empowerment.
Mia is survived by her husband Jason, daughters Alessa (Lincoln Archibald) and Abigale, son Peyton, parents Jean Maxime and Marie Bourdeau, siblings Jean Mark and Cynthia, granddaughter Mera Archibald, and countless friends and loved ones.
