I-25 Accident Today: Major Crash Closes I-25 in Both Directions South of Pueblo

Pueblo County, Colorado — A major multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 has shut down the highway in both directions south of Pueblo early this morning, causing widespread traffic delays and emergency response activity.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the collision occurred near mile marker 85 shortly before 8:30 a.m. Multiple vehicles traveling southbound were involved in the high-impact crash. Authorities confirmed at least one fatality, while several other individuals were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to non-life-threatening.

Investigators say poor visibility and slick road conditions may have contributed to the accident. Snow and icy patches were reported across parts of southern Colorado earlier in the morning, creating hazardous driving conditions along the busy interstate corridor.

Interstate 25, a critical north–south freight and commuter route, remains fully closed as troopers and emergency crews work to investigate the scene and remove damaged vehicles. Drivers are being redirected to alternate routes, including U.S. 50 and State Highway 96, as cleanup efforts continue.

State Patrol officials confirmed the crash remains under active investigation. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward.

The I-25 accident today has caused significant delays throughout the region, and officials warn the closure could last several hours. Further updates regarding the victims and roadway reopening are expected as more information becomes available.
