The leader and founder of the Samoa Independent Seventh Day Adventist Church (SISDAC), Alaimoana Pastor Willie Papu, has passed away at the age of 86.
According to a post shared by one of the church’s pastors, Pastor Papu died peacefully at his home in Mangere, New Zealand, at 1:32 a.m. (NZ Time). His passing marks the end of an era for the church he established more than four decades ago.
Pastor Willie Papu founded the Samoa Independent Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1983 alongside his wife, Elizabeth Papu. Members of the congregation have reflected on the early years of the ministry, describing its beginnings as filled with challenges, perseverance, and unwavering faith. Through dedication and strong leadership, SISDAC grew to establish congregations not only in Samoa but also internationally.
Despite ongoing health challenges, Pastor Papu remained committed to his calling. Church leaders shared that he was able to preach one final sermon during the celebration of his 86th birthday on February 7 in Mangere. The event brought together church leaders from various countries, making it a significant and emotional occasion for many in attendance.
Church members worldwide are now mourning the loss of what they describe as a spiritual father and patriarch. At the time of his passing, key church leaders, including Pastor Iafeta Masipa’u and Treasurer Pastor Lagolago Levae, were in Samoa.
Further details regarding funeral services and memorial arrangements will be announced to SISDAC members in Samoa and across the globe as the church prepares to honor the life and legacy of its beloved founder.
